Following Officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Greg completed a seventeen year in the British Armed Forces as a Royal Engineer. He served globally including deployments to the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. During his military career he qualified as a boat operator which led to a passion for powerboats. Following retirement from the military and the commercial defence sector, Greg gained Diplomas in Small Ships Surveying and Marine Accident Investigation from UK’s National Maritime Training Centre and has achieved marine surveyor recognition with both MNZ and AMSA. Greg has also achieved CE Inspector status with the IMCI and is a qualified NMMA Standards specialist.

Greg is professionally accredited by the UK Engineering Council, the City and Guilds Institute, and is a Commercially Certified Marine Surveyor through the Australasian Institute of Maritime Surveyors. In 2021 Greg was appointed to the Board of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors and took over as Deputy Chair in 2025. In 2024 Greg won the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors – Specialist Field Award for his work in the Marine Accident Investigation field.
